The clean contemporary white box design of this Chelsea duplex was a perfect place to start. The client's request to keep things sleek, uncluttered and unabashedly simple was easily granted by using simple shapes, pieces that had an open quality such as the kitchen stools and living room coffee table. Benches instead of chairs flank the dining table to minimize lateral cuts in an otherwise linear, horizontal space.
10,500 square feet is-- well-- a lot of space. Surprisingly there was no problem filling this country estate with family heirlooms, artwork, and furniture previously used at the owner's previous residence, a farm in Virginia.
Overseeing every detail of the construction and renovation projects throughout the house, deciding where existing furniture would live and sourcing new pieces to elevate the old- all while the couple vacationed at their property in the midwest for the summer- was a challenge and an exciting opportunity.
As fiercely private people, they have asked that their family name not be used, but they have been generous in allowing the estate to be photographed.
